This motorcycle enjoyed great success in World Superbike and was raced in the 2007 season, despite no is being produced pending rule changes by the series&#039; governing body, FIM, to allow competition from the new Ducati 1098. The 999 was designed by Pierre Terblanche amid much controversy over its design. It is known as a powerful, race-oriented motorcycle. With its traditional Ducati V-Twin Desmodromic Valve-driven engine layout, it has a linear power delivery, with high horsepower and torque figures even at low revs. In addition, with its high-quality suspension and trellis chassis, it is one of the best motorcycles of its time. More powerful versions of the 999S and 999R were then introduced, both of which could hit 0-62 mph (0-100 km\/h) in under three seconds; and a top speed of over 170 mph (270 km\/h). The 2005 Ducati 999S won the Maxisport category for the prestigious 2005 International Masterbike Competition, finishing second overall. It received critical acclaim from many quarters, including the UK&#039;s MCN, calling it &quot;simply the best V-Twin in the world,&quot; and Motorbikestoday.com, describing it as &quot;the most desirable, most exciting race bike in the world.&quot; in 2004. MotorcycleUSA.com described it as \u201cawesome\u201d and \u201cthe epitome of V-Twin power. From the start the 999 was very successful in the Superbike World Championship, winning world championships in: 2003 Neil Hodgson \/ 2004 James Toseland \/ 2006 Troy Bayliss and Gregorio Lavilla also won the BSB title in 2005 with a 999 F04. This 2005 model received more power and was restyled and, in addition to the &quot;renewed&quot; black, lighter swingarm (because the earlier weaker &quot;grey&quot; versions often fell), a new fairing in which the previous air slots have largely been omitted. This model \u201cS\u201d placed between the 999 and the 999R. The water-cooled engine has a capacity of 998 CC. Furthermore, the four-stroke DOHC V-Twin Cylinder Testastretta Desmodronic engine is equipped with four valves per cylinder. The power of 136 HP (100 kW) is delivered at 9,750 rpm. The torque is set at 106 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The engine had a dry weight of 199 Kg and achieved a top speed of approximately 270 Km\/hr. The transmission takes place via a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel via a chain. Otherwise, the bike features fully adjustable \u0150hlins Upside-down front suspension and fully adjustable \u0150hlins monoshock rear suspension. Equipped with a double disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. Everything on this motorcycle is geared towards a racing motorcycle pur-sang that you can also drive wonderfully. This bike is equipped with the racing kit consisting of a 102 dB Termignoni (half-system) exhaust system (incl. control unit) and a carbon fiber muffler cover! This increases the power to 143 hp (105 kW) delivered at 9,750 rpm. The torque is set at 111.8 Nm at 8,000 rpm.
