Documentation

This is a beautiful and original Volkswagen T1 from 1959, with both patina and many upgrades. The small rear window, the typical round taillights or the pointy turn signals… This is unmistakably a pre 1960's T1 bus, and those are very rare. This beautiful T1 is therefore an original German built T1. Built in February 1959 and then sold in America. Of course with the well-known, small rear window. It got its characteristic looks in the 1960s as a commercial vehicle from “Graves Electrical & Co”. This company still exists in Dickinson, Texas, America. A dry region where the van spent 55 years of its life, which is why it has remained in such good condition. The bus was imported from the United States to the Netherlands in 2015. After 5 years of repairs, the bus was approved by the RDW in the Netherlands in February 2020, including a full technical inspection. The following work has been done: Underside fully welded where necessary. For example, a new cabin floor has been installed, new carrying parts above the left front wheel and right front wheel, new jack stands, a new battery box (rear right) and new plates (rear left). The bottom of the side doors are fitted with new parts. Everything done professionally by an expert. The cross beams and longitudinal beams are still completely original and in good condition (and therefore also technically approved). Everything is visible, nothing tucked away, lubricated or sprayed full of tectyl. What you see is what you get. Top (body) has been preserved in its original condition, completely treated with Owatrol. This is the specialist in protection and protection, so that the beautiful look is protected and preserved. The combination of 62-year-old condition, full of patina and without rusted parts, can be called quite unique. A narrowed and adjustable front axle has been installed. For the beautiful look, the rear axle has been lowered by 1 tooth. BRM rims 15 inch placed with good tires (2020) + 1x original spare wheel with new tire. Mechanically, electrically and cosmetically completely checked. Everything renewed where necessary, invoices all present of more than € 7500.00. For extra reliability, a restored, non-original, period correct 1200cc engine has been installed. It sweats a little but runs and starts excellently. It also includes a new crankshaft seal. The engine and electrical system have been completely converted to 12 volts. 12V lighting installed, so better lighting, visibility and safety. New turn signal system installed. All electrical systems have been repaired and/or updated. Even the interior lighting works. The only point of attention is the ignition lock: it is somewhat sensitive and can sometimes get stuck on 'start'. It has the original gearbox with the original gearbox and shifts well. A steering box protector and steering damper have been installed. Replace front wheel axle bearings + replace seal rings. Front ball joints replaced. Brake system checked, including new brake fluid reservoir. New brake line from front to rear. Custom made American roof rack, full length, including decorative ladder. Blazecut extinguishing system in engine compartment. Authentic yellow fog light placed at the front (decorative). New heating pipe under bus. New exhaust from the muffler. New starter motor. The interior has been expanded so that you can take the bus with you for a night away. The well-known Rock n roll bed has been installed with a pillow and completely new upholstery in 2020. New curtains have also been made and installed. Front seats newly filled and upholstered, matching the design of the Rock 'n roll bed. The van is fully lined internally with the wood panels from Ricky's bus panels and the wood has been post-treated. All doors, walls and sky. Well-known "pop-out" safari windows installed at the front. New wipers including shafts, especially for pop-out windows. New wiper motor. Main power switch built into the battery. Partly new rubbers on doors and windows. Less than 800 miles (1250 km) have been driven since all the work. All in all a beautiful bus and a real attention grabber during any tour or car show. An ideal bus to continue driving or perhaps to finish further. Where else can you find an original T1 from 1959? In that case you have a super good base. The bus has a valid Dutch license plate and can be registered anywhere in Europe. The van was MOT inspected in 2020 at the RDW inspection station. Due to its age (62 years old), this bus will never have to be inspected again in the Netherlands. To get a good impression of the car, we advise you to come to one of the viewing days.
