Documentation

This Mercedes 280GE Brabus has a special story. The Norwegian G-Class specialist and official Brabus importer Autocenteret Fjeldstad converted a number of G-Classes to an older frame in the 1990s. This was common practice in Norway at the time as it provided a significant tax advantage. This includes this one, which was originally delivered in 1991 as a 300GE and was subsequently modified by Brabus to Brabus G36. The engine was enlarged to 3.6L, which produced 238 hp and 350 Nm. However, it did not stop there, a Brabus odometer, door sills, logos, sports steering wheel, walnut gear lever, rear wheel cover and 5 Brabus Monoblock rims were also mounted. This was the first G-Class model to offer Brabus engines and options and only about 400 Brabus G36 seem to have been delivered. Subsequently, the Mercedes was transferred to a 1984 frame by the same Brabus importer Fjeldstad. The original Norwegian documents stating that the car is equipped with a 3.6L Brabus engine and converted to a 1984 (280GE) frame are present. In 2022, this conversion still provides tax benefits: because the G is officially registered as a 1984 model, the car falls under the transitional old-timer scheme and almost already under the old-timer scheme. Technically, the car has had a major service in the last year. This has replaced: both fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs & cables, ignition coil, distributor, battery, brake cylinder LA, shock absorber mounts & spring dishes LA-RA, brake lines & hoses, fuel supply and return line, radiator, thermostat, oil line, multi belt and the body is restored. The Norwegian invoices for the work are present. There are still a few points of attention: the engine runs erratically and the battery is weak. In the interior, the bonnet release lever and the lighting adjustment knob are missing. The headliner is hanging and needs to be cleaned. The G-Class comes with vehicle documents, manuals and many invoices. To get a good impression of the car, we advise you to come to one of the viewing days.
