Documentation

In 1954 Mercedes-Benz showed at the New York auto show the prototype that would later turn out to be the W121 190SL. The two-door sports car was built between 1955 and 1963. The 190SL was in everything a real Mercedes-Benz and was therefore automatically positioned in the higher segment of the market. Things like an optional hard-top and looks inspired by the iconic 300SL Roadster had to help. It is not surprising that the 190SL resembled the 300SL roadster in terms of looks. With the 190SL, Mercedes-Benz wanted to offer an affordable alternative to the flagship: the 300SL Roadster. The 190SL therefore had a modest motorization. The car is powered by a 1.9 liter four-cylinder engine with twin Solex carburettors. The four-cylinder engine, which is based on the in-line six from the 300SL, produces 104 hp and makes the 190SL a lively car. This 1957 190SL was registered in Norway in 1961. After 63 years, the time has come to restore the car. It is a wonderful base for restoration. The sheet metal deserves some attention and needs some repairs here and there. The original DB334G “Light Blue” paint is weathered and will need to be repainted. The chassis is hard. The interior is also still in the original livery and is old but new carpets and mats are included with the car. As befits a genuine Mercedes-Benz quality product, the engine starts and the car drives. However, a full service is recommended. It is a survivor: undisturbed and a perfect basis for restoration. To get a good idea of the car, we advise you to come to one of the viewing days.
