Documentation

Ducati's first outing in the Supersport era began with this “bike”, designed in 1988 and put into production in 1989-1990 as the world's first 900cc “belt drive” Supersport. The significance of this bike in Ducati history cannot be overemphasized. Its design and styling herald the World Championship and win with the 851 series. Its engine, engineering, frame & suspension paved the way for all Supersport models to follow. This spectacular bike is a time machine. Very few of these models were ever released in 1989. Production in 1990 was also quite low as the plant struggled with the massive funding needed to transform the entire operation from its 1970s version to a 1990s belt drive model. Both collectors and non-Ducatisti are largely unaware of its existence due to the relatively short production period and very limited numbers. Factors that almost guarantee the investment value 100 %. For comparison: the Ducati 600 & 650 Pantah produced in the previous period now represent a value of approx. 16 to 18 K and are still rising. So it is absolutely no “rocket science” to consider to what extent this model will eventually increase in value. (Production total in 1990: 2,001 pieces). The air-cooled engine has a capacity of 904 CC. Furthermore, the four-stroke V-Twin Cylinder Desmodronic engine is equipped with two valves per cylinder. The power of 83 hp (61 kW) is delivered at 8,400 rpm. The torque is set at 84 Nm at 6,400 rpm. The engine had a dry weight of 180 Kg and (before that time) already achieved a top speed of about 220 Km/hour. The transmission takes place via a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel via a chain. For the rest, the bike is equipped with the Marzocchi front fork, which was widely used by Ducati until the late 1980s, and a double disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. This 1990 model can be recognized by the red-colored frame, the white-colored wheels, but above all the streamline, which is executed in Red/White. After purchasing it in 1989, the 1st owner sold the engine after two years to the 2nd owner who owned the engine until 2018. Age and health force him to sell the engine with a heavy heart. The engine is still completely in original condition as it was performed at the time and (technically) well maintained. Over the years, the motorcycle has been used very little given its age, which is also easy to read in view of the relatively low mileage of approx. 32,000 km in the overall condition of the motorcycle. The bike comes with a package of documents such as the original Owner's Manual, Ducati folder and a complete Workshop Manual. In addition to many invoices, there are also some Dekra and TüV documents and a Motor test is included from both the weekly magazine Motor and Motor 73. The Ducati 900 Supersport was, is and is becoming increasingly scarce. A (technically) well-maintained original with a relatively low mileage in particular is rarely offered on the market and is never for sale for long! This type of Supersport has been working on a significant increase in value for some years now, which will only increase further in the coming years. A collectable that should not be missing in your collection. Runs, but cannot be started due to belts. Please refer to the general auction information for more information.
