Documentation

The Ducati SuperSport and SS are a series of air-cooled four-stroke desmodromic 2-valve 90° V-twin motorcycles made by Ducati since 1988. A limited edition SuperSport called SuperLight was sold in 1992. The 1991 Supersports were produced with white chrome-molybdenum steel frames. and white wheels. The swingarms used needle roller bearings instead of bushings like in the past. Brakes from the Ducati 851 were used on the SuperSport which greatly improved braking performance. The revised SuperSports garnered immediate success and became wildly popular. Even though the 1991 SuperSport was extremely well developed, Ducati would continue to refine the bike over the years. From 1991 to 1998 the model was called 900 SS and was available with full (SS or called “Carenata”) or half fairing (SS/CR or called “Nuda”). (Production total in 1997: 1,411 units). The air-cooled engine has a capacity of 904 CC. Furthermore, the four-stroke V-Twin Cylinder SOHC Desmodronic engine is equipped with two valves per cylinder. The power of 84 HP (61.8 kW) is delivered at 7,000 rpm. The torque is set at 84 Nm at 6,400 rpm. The engine had a dry weight of 183 Kg and (before that time) already achieved a top speed of approximately 220 Km/hr. The transmission takes place via a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel via a chain. For the rest, the bike is equipped with the Showa Upside-Down front fork, which has been widely used by Ducati since the early 1990s, and a double disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. This 1997 model can be recognized by the bronze-colored frame, the bronze-colored wheels, but above all the streamline that has been changed. More air vents have been added to the full fairing and the Ducati stickers (Graphics) have now been enlarged over the entire fairing, which gives the bike a new look after having been unchanged for several years. The engine is almost entirely in original condition as it was performed at the time and (technically) well maintained. Over the years, the motorcycle has been used very little given its age, which is also easy to read in view of the relatively low mileage of approx. 26,000 km in the overall condition of the motorcycle. The Ducati 900 SS SuperSport is becoming increasingly scarce and the regularity with which it used to be offered is a thing of the past. A (technically) well-maintained original with a relatively low mileage in particular is rarely offered on the market and is never for sale for long! The Caranata type (with the full cockpit) has been working for some years now with an increase in value that will only increase further in the coming years. A collectable that should not be missing in your collection. Runs, but cannot be started due to belts. Please refer to the general auction information for more information.
