Documentation

In 1992, Ducati unveiled the limited edition 900 Superlight (better known as the Ducati SL900) after the success of the 1991 Supersport. The chassis and engine were from the 1992 Supersport, but there were a few details that set the Superlight apart, such as a vented clutch cover, fully floating cast iron front disc brakes called “Floaters” and larger diameter mufflers (from the Ducati 888 SP4 ). Each Superlight was supplied from the factory with a carbon fiber front and rear mudguard, a solo seat and a numbered plate on the top triple clamp. This first Superlight model is now commonly known as the MK1 or SSR Superlight. The air-cooled engine has a capacity of 904 CC. Furthermore, the four-stroke V-Twin Cylinder SOHC Desmodronic engine is equipped with two valves per cylinder. The power of 78 HP (57 kW) is delivered at 7,000 rpm. The torque is set at 84 Nm at 6,400 rpm. The engine had a dry weight of 182 Kg and (before that time) already achieved a top speed of approximately 221 Km/hr. The transmission takes place via a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel via a chain. 1992 models had lightweight 17 inch Marvic/Akront composite wheels. These wheels are extraordinarily special because of the combination of symmetrical magnesium “spokes” (the heart) that are attached to the aluminum rim by means of bolts. A true Ducati connoisseur or collector knows the international value of the wheels alone! For the rest, the bike is equipped with the Showa Upside-Down front fork, which has been widely used by Ducati since the early 1990s, and a double disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. The Ducati 900 SL Superlight MK.1 cost a sloppy Fl. 27,990,- (excl. Costs of making it roadworthy Fl 325,-). It was already a collector's item when it was introduced and sold out everywhere in the foreseeable future. (Production total: 952 pieces). This Ducati is equipped with Termignoni exhausts. The former owner had the engine very well maintained (Germany: “scheckhaft gepflegd”), which, in addition to the external condition of the engine, can also be clearly read from the various invoices supplied, worth approx. € 6,500. In addition to the motor test (Weekblad Motor), all documents also include the original Ducati folder and the so-called Ducati Owners Manual! The bike comes with an extra set of black Brembo rims to protect the Marvic Akront wheels! The motorcycle is originally from Germany and it has been decided not to provide it with a registration number. However, the motorcycle comes with all the papers (Fahrzeugbrief) to still do this or to import or export it to other destinations. As a Ducati collector, a Superlight cannot be missed. If you consult the SL900 register on the internet, you can read that there are several people who own one or more Superlights, not everyone chooses to register their Superlight for various reasons. As you can see in this auction, there is always a very small group of enthusiasts who aim to have the entire series in their collection. However, this collecting goal is not really easy in practice, but has not become impossible with this auction. Runs, but cannot be started due to belts.
