Documentation
When designing the 400 CC SS Junior, Ducati chose not to start from the drawing board but to take the 750 SS as an example, which in turn had the 900 SS as an example. It was also popularly referred to as a 750 SS minus 18 HP! This Ducati model is basically designed and aimed primarily at the Japanese 400 CC market, where it also successfully competed in the 400 CC Supersport Junior class. The majority of Ducati production has therefore both gone up and perhaps also gone down here, which has greatly thinned out the total already very limited production (1991: 541 units) in the intervening ca. 30 years. The air-cooled engine has a capacity of 398 CC. Furthermore, the four-stroke V-Twin Cylinder SOHC Desmodronic engine is equipped with two valves per cylinder. The power of 42 HP (30.9 kW) is delivered at 10,000 rpm. The torque is set at 35.2 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The engine had a dry weight of 174 Kg and (before that time) already achieved a top speed of approximately 180 Km/hour. The transmission takes place via a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel via a chain. The front and rear wheel of this motorcycle are special because of the combination of asymmetrical magnesium “spokes” (the heart) that are attached to the aluminum rim by means of bolts. As far as I know, this only occurs with the SL900 Superlight MK.1 which also has the Marvic wheels, but then symmetrically. For the rest, the bike is equipped with the Marzocchi front fork, which was widely used by Ducati until the late 1980s, and a double disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. (Production total in 1991: 541 pieces). According to the owner (source: former owner), only 3 units (!) were put on a Dutch registration in 1991, which makes it very likely that this engine is currently the only version still available in the Netherlands that is also was originally delivered in the Netherlands and still has the original Dutch registration. A bike that should not be missing in any Ducati 1990-2000 collection in terms of history and current condition. An original Ducati Workshop Manual is also included with the documents! Runs, but cannot be started due to belts. Please refer to the general auction information for more information.
